From the Second City to the City of Angels, Roy Davis, Jr., and friends came to town to bring the beats and make you fall in love with his brand of effortlessly cool house music. Davis, a staple in the electronic scene for the better part of 20 years, shows no intention of stopping with his latest release, God Life Music. His soulful yet spacey blend of iconic beats and scintillating vocals will you keep you on the dancefloor and have you chugging a Red Bull in a desperate effort to keep up.

The last time Davis was in LA headlining, any unassuming bystanders would notice the thick, thumping bassline permeating though the dry air and the stagnant darkness in the Warehouse District of Downtown LA, steps away from the famous Sixth Street Bridge.

The stage was simple: a dim, open warehouse, cool blue light cast on to the dance floor and a handful of party people who were not ready to stop until 4 a.m. As video projections splashed the walls, Davis took to the turntables around 1 a.m., spinning old classics and new additions, including the new single “I Have a Vision” (feat. Erin Martin). With beats so clean and cool they could be used in any runway show, and vocals so chock full of R&B soul that they oozed sexiness and begged to be danced to, Davis fused house and soul to take you to a higher state of electronica, a state so pure you’ll have no problem with the aforementioned Red Bull sacrifice and won’t be sorry you stayed out into the wee hours of the morning. Davis proved he is still a heavy hitter of house, layering elements like only a true master of music can do.

Davis will be spinning July 13 at Green Dolphin in Chicago and July 24 at Temple in San Francisco. For more information, visit his MySpace page. God Life Music is available July 20.
